Disabled exemption goes to Jindal Disabled exemption goes to Jindal CAPITOL NEWS BUREAU June 05, 2013 Comments The state Senate on Tuesday gave final passage to a bill that would expand the $7,500 homestead exemption to veterans determined to be “totally disabled” or “unemployable.” The current exemption applies only to veterans rated as 100 percent disabled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Senate Bill 96, sponsored by state Sen. Robert Adley, requires a parish-wide election in parishes that haven’t already approved the 100 percent exemption for injured veterans determined to be 100 percent disabled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Adley, R-Benton, said about 40 parishes have already voted on the 100 percent disability measure, and therefore, wouldn’t have to vote again because of his bill. If signed by Gov. Bobby Jindal, the exemption would take effect Jan. 1, 2015.
