Senate Bill 96, sponsored by state Sen. Robert Adley, requires a parish-wide election in parishes that haven’t already approved the 100 percent exemption for injured veterans determined to be 100 percent disabled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Adley, R-Benton, said about 40 parishes have already voted on the 100 percent disability measure, and therefore, wouldn’t have to vote again because of his bill. If signed by Gov. Bobby Jindal, the exemption would take effect Jan. 1, 2015.
