Associated Press photo by GERALD HERBERT -- Former Gov. Edwin Edwards and his wife Trina Scott Edwards attend a luncheon in December for a Council For a Better Louisiana in Baton Rouge. The Edwards got their own reality show starting in February on the A&E cable network. 'The Governor's Wife' is a vehicle to showcase Trina, the 30-something wife of the octogenarian ex-con former governor.

Former Gov. Edwin Edwards and his third wife, Trina, are coming to reality television.

“Yes, it’s true!” Trina Edwards confirmed by email Friday.

A&E will air “The Governor’s Wife” beginning at 9 p.m. Feb. 27.

Later in the day, Trina Edwards went on Facebook to post: “The show is fun, positive, and light-hearted in nature ... just like us! I am not allowed to discuss specific story lines, but I will say that the show does follow our quest to conceive a child ... sorry, but that’s all I can give you now.”

The show’s creator and executive producer, Shaun Sanghani, said he is working with Leftfield Pictures and A&E, a cable television network, to produce the series.

“I am very excited about it and so is everyone else,” Sanghani said.

Edwards was governor from 1972 to 1980, 1984 to 1988 and 1992 to 1996.

He and Trina Grimes Scott married in 2011 after meeting while Edwards served time in a federal prison for his role in a bribery and extortion scheme to rig riverboat casino licenses during his fourth term as governor.

Now living in Gonzales, they have a blended family of six children, including Trina Edwards’ teenage sons, and hope to welcome a baby of their own.

The former governor is 85. His wife is 34.

Edwards’ post-prison life has been an active one. Known as a colorful character, he launched a book tour to promote his authorized biography, celebrated his 84th birthday in style with a glitzy party at the Hotel Monteleone and pursued a reality television show.

A bout with pneumonia landed him in the hospital last year, shortly after he moved into a new house, attended Gov. Bobby Jindal’s inaugural ball and went to college football’s Bowl Championship Series game.

Edwards recovered in time to preside as king over the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade.

According to A&E, “The Governor’s Wife” will feature the former governor, his wife, his wife’s sons and his daughters from a previous marriage, 62-year-old Anna and 60-year-old Victoria. Anna is described by A&E as a four-time divorcee while Victoria is said to be a former showgirl.

A&E said: “The series follows Trina as she attempts to fit into the former governor’s upscale world and busy social life while trying to get along with daughters twice her age and corral her teenage sons. Between school projects, running for president of the Homeowner’s Association, fending off skeptics who think she’s a gold digger, and thoughts of adding a baby of their own to the mix, the Edwards clan truly represent a new take on the modern family.”

The network ordered 12 episodes.

At least six reality TV shows film in Louisiana.

A&E also airs “Duck Dynasty,” which follows a West Monroe family who made it big by crafting duck calls.

Other Louisiana reality shows include:

  • “Swamp People,” which tracks alligator hunters.
  • “Cajun Pawn Stars,” which is set in an Alexandria pawn shop.
  • “Sons of Guns,” which features a Baton Rouge gun shop.
  • “Rat Bastards,” which films nutria hunters in south Louisiana.
  • “Bayou Billionaires,” which showcases a Shreveport family who got rich off a natural gas find.

Last year while visiting a friend in LA he took me to meet Trina and the ex governor at their house. Trina is one of the nicest, most down to earth, genuine people I have ever met. For those of you commenting on their relationship, I can tell you this, we women love to be around men who make us laugh and Edwin is very personable. It was easy to see that they truly love each other.

they qualify for the Louisiana Film tax credits, so the tax payer will be footing the bill for 1/3rd of the cost and their salaries.

Apparently a couple of folks posting here have been smoking something is they really believe that Jindal is the greatest thing since sliced bread. No wonder you all lost the Presidential election, again.

So embarrassing....they must be really hurting for money. Why else would they stoop so low? If I don't have enough constructive things to do with my time other that to watch this, I need serious help. I'm a little surprised more folks aren't admitting they will watch this. But wait, there are zillions (apparently) watching the Kardashians for some unknown reason. Not only do people watch this kind of nonsense, they vote too. That's pretty obvious......just saying'. Pray for our country.......this is just ridiculous.

Hey JDK944: Thank you for pointing out that article, which by the way I did read and enjoyed. Gov. Jindal will probably turn out like most intellectuals, not being appreciated till after they are dead and gone.A sad situation, most think that EWE&Blanco are the greatest things since sliced bread.Though I do not agree with every move he has made,I firmly believe he has tried to make positive changes in our great state. As far as the Advocate goes, what can you really say...Oh well !!!! God Bless All&God Bless the USA!!!!!!

13) Comment by jdk944 - 05/01/2013

@old yat - have your read the 1/3/13 piece on LA that was written up in Forbes Magazine? Jindal's economic plans and actions have moved this state forward economically by LIGHT YEARS!! But you would never know if from reading some of the comments made by posters to The Advocate or for The Advocate itself. They should can't give Jindal ANY credit.

Proofing once again that their is no "floor" to the term DUMB !!

Whats the name of the new show?CROOK DYNASTY or DUMBAZZ DYNASTY!!!! What a waste of film, time&money.Sad part is that if the old fool could run for political office you fools would vote for him! But noooo!! I am wrong, Bobby Jindal is the demon that you all hate so much not that pathetic old excon EWE.God help us,no wonder why our great state is mocked by the rest of the nation.By the way,I read his authorized biography, what a waste of paper, filled with many inaccuracies and to think one time I admired Leo Honeycutt,oh well we all make mistakes.

Just what I want to see-a show about taking care of the elderly. I went to the Dukes of Hazard Reunion this past October and Edwards and his granddaughter-I mean wife were there signing his book for 40$ a pop. He had to leave early because he coughed and a throat booger came up and got all over his shirt. It was hillarious. He was so old he could not even see where the stain was so she had to take a napkin and wipe the booger off of his shirt. Now that is classy and probably what a lot of the story line to this geriatric show is going to be. HA ha ha.....or maybe we will see her wiping him after he goes to the bathroom because you know the old crooked man cant reach his backside.

We should do more to give attention to the convicted felons of Louisiana. A TV show is just not enough after what they've given to society.

my buddy's step-sister makes $86 an hour on the computer. She has been out of a job for five months but last month her payment was $20736 just working on the computer for a few hours. Go to this web site and read more-=-=-=- www.Bit40.com -=-=-=-

Great. Another "Louisiana" show featuring the flotsam and jetsam of what passes for "society" in this state. If nothing else, it will have the "looking at a car wreck" appeal for the masses, at least for an episode or two.

"Leftfield Pictures" That name is a perfect fit for edwin.

22) Comment by wawawhat - 04/01/2013

I know for a fact that at least three of the "real" moments were scripted and took about 6-7 hours each to film, including a couple of playful fights and disagreements during them. The "extras" involved were pretty disgusted by the end of the day.

23) Comment by ovation - 04/01/2013

What reality? All reality shows are scripted to a certain extent to make them 'interesting' othewise who wants to watch someone's everyday life?

24) Comment by pwmayeux - 04/01/2013

I hate to admit, but I will watch.
