Public Service Commission District 2
Former state Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle announced Thursday he is running for the District 2 seat on the Public Service Commission in this fall’s election.
Angelle, a 50-year-old Republican, said the PSC is important because it lies at the intersection of energy, environment and economy.
“If Louisiana’s economy is to continue to grow and new and better jobs to be created, it is critical that we have stable and low-cost energy,” Angelle said. “As a member of the Public Service Commission, I will fight to protect Louisiana energy from overburdening federal regulations, such as the recent oil moratorium, and work to ensure low-cost energy for all of Louisiana, making our economy stronger and new and better jobs available.”
Candidate sign up for the District 2 seat opens Wednesday.
The PSC district includes all or parts of 13 parishes from the Baton Rouge area down to Houma-Thibodaux and west to Lafayette.
The primary election is Nov. 6 and a runoff, if needed, is Dec. 8.
Commissioner Jimmy Field announced earlier this year that he will not seek re-election.
Angelle resigned as secretary of DNR on Wednesday. He served in the post for eight years — first under Democrat Gov. Kathleen Blanco and then under Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal. He also served as interim lieutenant governor as well as a St. Martin Parish police juror and St. Martin Parish president.
“I’ve chosen to dedicate a great deal of my life to public service,” Angelle said.
Angelle said the PSC attracted him because it helps create jobs and contributes to the state’s economy.
He graduated from Breaux Bridge High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Angelle and his wife, Dianne, have five children. They expect to become grandparents this week.
