Former Gov. Edwin W. Edwards was being treated for pneumonia Saturday at a Baton Rouge hospital.
Edwards’ wife, Trina, said by email late Saturday that her husband was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
They live in Gonzales.
“He is receiving excellent care and is expected to fully recover in a matter of days,” Trina Edwards wrote. “He has been a little overworked and became exhausted, but is already doing much better.”
The former governor marked his 84th birthday in August. He served four terms as governor and later went to federal prison on racketeering convictions.
Released from prison last year, Edwards remarried and went on a book tour.
