California man faces life sentence in 1987 rape of Baton Rouge woman

A 60-year-old California man is awaiting sentencing next month following his conviction Thursday night in the 1987 rape of a woman in Baton Rouge.

Alfred James Carter, of Los Angeles, will face a mandatory term of life in prison when state District Judge Lou Daniel sentences him Sept. 18.

DNA linked Carter to the crime in 2012.

Carter raped the woman at a Sharp Lane apartment on June 25, 1987, and threatened to kill her and her child, who was 2 years old at the time, court documents indicate.

An East Baton Rouge Parish jury found him guilty of aggravated rape.
