Acadiana police and fire briefs for Aug. 7, 2014

Police are asking for help locating Damaris Harmon, a 21-year-old suspect wanted in a weekend homicide in Crowley, officials said.

Harmon, of Crowley, is suspected of shooting to death Kenneth Drake on Saturday after walking into a West Seventh Street residence specifically to look for the victim, Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson said.

Gibson said Harmon left the victim’s residence in a dark SUV.

Harmon is wanted on one count of first-degree murder. His last known address was 415 West Andrus St.

“This was not a random act, as our investigation shows that Harmon entered the residence with force and sought the victim in the residence,” Gibson said earlier this week.

Gibson described Harmon as a black male with short hair, 6-feet, 3-inches tall and weighing 160 pounds.

Anyone with information on Harmon’s whereabouts can call (337) 789-TIPS. All callers remain anonymous, and may receive a reward up to $1,000.

Mexican pleads guilty in immigration case

A man from Mexico pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to falsely claiming to be an American, officials said.

Hernandez, 32, faces up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. U.S. District Judge Richard Haik did not set a sentencing date.
