Man pushing car on I-10 fatally struck

A man trying to push his car on Interstate 10 after it ran out of gas was fatally injured early Saturday morning after an SUV slammed into his car and sandwiched him between the vehicles.

Jason Smith, 39, was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for critical injuries, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman. Smith, of Denham Springs, died later in the day.

At about 1:30 a.m. the Mercedes sedan had come to a stop in the right lane of I-10 east near Perkins Road when the 39-year-old driver jumped out and started pushing the car. That was when Sarah Raimondi, 37, slammed into him and his car, police said.

A 47-year-old woman was also inside the car and trying to steer it when the crash occurred. She received minor injuries.

Police suspect alcohol was a factor for both Raimondi and Smith, McKneely said. Raimondi told police that she had planned to be a sober “designated driver” earlier in the evening, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

After investigators traced two child pornography images uploaded to social media to a 29-year-old’s computer, they found several more images stored on the Baton Rouge man’s hard drive, authorities say.

Bolton Morris uploaded the images May 20 to a blog on Tumblr, according to the affidavit of probable cause from the Louisiana Department of Justice. At least one of the images involved boys as young as five years old.

Morris told authorities he has looked at many child porn photos, and investigators found photos of teen boys in various stages of undress on his hard drive, the affidavit says.

Morris, of 1637 E. Lakeshore Drive, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on Saturday for distribution of pornography involving a juvenile.

EBR police arrest 19 drivers in DWI cases

Authorities arrested at least 19 people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish, including a fourth-offense DWI, and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show.
