Lafayette police blotter for July 23, 2014

A call to police about a domestic disturbance in New Iberia led to a late-night evacuation of four homes after the discovery of a methamphetamine lab in the 600 block of McDonald Street, officials said.

Iberia Parish sheriff’s Lt. Richard Fleming said in a statement that deputies found the suspected lab inside a house after responding to the disturbance call at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The occupants of the residence were evacuated, along with the occupants of three nearby homes,” Fleming said.

Hazmat teams from the New Iberia Fire Department, the Iberia Parish Fire District, the Sheriff’s Office and State Police were on scene.

“Three patrol deputies, along with the two adult occupants of the home, received decontamination treatment at the scene,” Fleming said.

Charles Frederick Jr., 33, and Elizabeth McDowell, 32, who reside in the home on McDonald Street, were arrested on counts of manufacture of Schedule II narcotics, creation and operation of a clandestine lab, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McDowell was hospitalized after complaining about an “unspecified illness,” Fleming said. He said McDowell would be booked into the Iberia Parish Jail when doctors release her.

Police search for two armed robbers

Two men with semi-automatic firearms entered a convenience store on Gloria Switch Road early Monday, demanding money and cigarettes before fleeing with an undisclosed number of goods, police said.

One suspect wore a black hoodie and sweatshirt that featured white and green lettering. The other man wore all black clothing, blue shoes and covered his face with an orange rag, Sgt. Randal Leger said in a news release.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.
