Acadiana Crime Blotter for June 17, 2014

Three people in a downtown bar were injured early Sunday from one or more shots fired by an unidentified man suspected of shooting at unoccupied cars on nearby Grant Street minutes after the bar incident, police said.

Lafayette police patrolling on Jefferson Street responded to a shots-fired call at 2 a.m., and arrived at Shakers Nightclub to find two women and a man injured. The man and one of the women were treated at a hospital and released, while the second female refused medical treatment, Cpl. Paul Mouton said Monday.

By the time police arrived at the club, the gunman had fled. At 2:15 a.m., shots were heard on Grant Street.

“Multiple vehicles were discovered to have been struck by the gunfire” on Grant Street, Mouton said in a news release.

Surveillance cameras captured video of a man firing one shot inside the bar, Mouton said.

Detectives on Monday morning were looking for the man in the video, and also a motive for the shooting.

An investigation is ongoing, Mouton said.

Robbed business owner finds culprit is nephew

The nephew of a woman who owns Acadiana Food Mart in Scott surrendered Monday after robbing the store Sunday, officials said.

Kenneth James Romero, 47, of Lafayette, told police he took $260 in cash in a bag in the owner’s office, Scott Police Chief Chad Leger said.

“Mr. Romero filled out a voluntary statement confessing to entering the office and stealing the money,” Leger said in a news release.

Romero was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a count of theft.
