Acadiana police briefs for June 13, 2014

Acadia Parish authorities on Thursday ruled a 3-year-old boy’s death in May a homicide.

Keagyn Parson collapsed at the Evangeline home of his stepmother on May 19. Keagyn, who lived in Lake Arthur, died later the same day at Jennings American Legion Hospital after efforts to revive the boy failed.

On Thursday, Acadia Parish Coroner Dr. Mark Dawson ruled the death a homicide, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maxine Trahan said in a news release.

An investigation continues, Trahan said.

Crowley police look for band of thieves

Crowley police are investigating six burglaries in east Crowley they say they believe were committed by the same group of young men.

“Suspects have either kicked in doors or entered through windows of unoccupied residents during the burglaries,” Crowley Police Chief KP Gibson said.

Gibson described the young men as black, 15 to 21 years old with short hair, clean shaven and thinly built.

Police recovered one of the items stolen — a purple and white Schwinn female bicycle — and are looking for the owners, Gibson said in a news release.

Police ID second body found in burned car

The second body found burned beyond recognition south of Maurice in April has been identified as that of a woman from Breaux Bridge.

Abigail Clark, 29, was the second victim, according to a statement released Wednesday evening by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters discovered the bodies of Clark and Cody James Fell, 34, of Youngsville, inside a burning SUV on April 16.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon said an investigation continues.

New Iberia woman book on Medicaid fraud

A New Iberia woman was arrested Thursday on two counts of Medicaid fraud.

Theresa Clay Guy, 38, of 719 West End Blvd., surrendered to investigators from the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit on Thursday. Guy was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Guy, a direct service worker, is charged with submitting false time sheets to her employers, claiming she simultaneously provided personal care services to two Medicaid recipients at their homes. Guy submitted claims under the name “Theresa Clay” at one employer and “Theresa Guy” at the other, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s Office.

Direct service workers provide caregiver services such as cooking, grooming and bathing to physically handicapped or elderly Medicaid recipients.
