Acadiana Crime Blotter for June 5, 2014

An Opelousas police officer Monday night arrested two men who 33 minutes earlier pushed through the door of a residence, struck the homeowner in the head and sto le $40 and two handguns, an official said.

Officer Herbert Levier was on patrol on Cane Street when he saw two Opelousas men who fit the victim’s description of the earlier crime, Police Chief Perry Gallow said.

Levier arrested Hunter Auzzene and Kenon Richard, both 18, after a brief struggle, Gallow said in a statement released Tuesday night.

Gallow said Auzzene had recently cut the lawn at the residence and knew the homeowner.

The homeowner, whose identity was not released, told police he heard a knock at his Park Circle home about 11:20 p.m. and opened the door to Auzzene and Richard. Both men, wearing masks, pushed the man inside, where one of them hit him in the head with a handgun, Gallow said.

“They demanded money; however, there was only $40 in his wallet, which is what they stole along with two handguns,” Gallow said.

The homeowner was treated at the scene by paramedics, Gallow said.

Two men booked in Tuesday night shootings

An early Tuesday night disagreement turned into a delayed gunfight between two Lafayette men, officials said.

Paul Felix, 26, got into an argument with Donavan Henry, 25, and fired a shot at him but missed, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Capt. Craig Stansbury said in a news release.

Later Tuesday, Henry fired back, hitting Felix in the leg, Stansbury said.

Henry, 25, was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of attempted second-degree murder, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest, Stansbury said.

Felix was treated at a hospital then arrested on one count of attempted second-degree murder.

No bail was set, and both men remained in jail Wednesday evening.
