Arrest made in Cankton home invasion, robbery

A Carencro man was arrested Wednesday in a mid-May Cankton home invasion and armed robbery involving two men who allegedly threatened to kill the victim, police said.

Shane P. Pomier, 28, was booked into St. Landry Parish jail Wednesday on counts of attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, armed robbery and false imprisonment with a deadly weapon, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Capt. Megan Vizena said.

His bond was set at $500,000.

The crime was reported May 15 when a man claimed two gun-carrying men broke into his home on Billeaux Road, beat him and bound his arms behind his back, Vizena said.

“The victim stated that he overheard the subjects planning to cut his throat and that’s when he was able to break loose and run for help,” Vizena said.

Detectives on May 18 received a tip identifying Pomier as one of the two people allegedly involved in the home invasion. The victim identified one of the attackers as Pomier after being shown a photo lineup, Vizena said.

Pomier was caught with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s Office and Lafayette Parish detectives, Vizena said. She said detectives are continuing to look for a second man in the crime. Anyone with information is asked to call St. Landry Crime Stoppers at (337) 948 TIPS.
