Acadiana Crime Blotter for May 13, 2014

An Opelousas teen was killed in a two-vehicle crash with a school bus early Monday morning on La. 357 near Austin Road in St. Landry Parish.

Nonchalaunt Guillory, 17, was driving south on La. 357 when her 2000 Mazda car ran off the road and she over-corrected, striking the right side of an oncoming school bus, State Police Trooper Stephen Hammons said in a news release.

Guillory wasn’t wearing a seat belt. She was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries, Hammons said.

The bus driver, Lawrence Robert, 56, of Opelousas, was wearing a seat belt and received minor injuries, Hammons said.

No children were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Hammons said it was unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology samples were taken for analysis by the State Police Crime Lab.
