Acadiana crime blotter for April 11, 2014

A man suspected in a Tuesday bank robbery in Bayou Vista was arrested Thursday in Morgan City.

Barry P. Gilmore, 53, of Patterson, was booked on one count of simple robbery after Morgan City police found him at a restaurant on La. 182 in Morgan City at around 7:30 a.m.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said evidence provided by the public led to detectives identifying Gilmore in Tuesday’s robbery at MC Bank branch on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, the Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

Gilmore allegedly entered the bank, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount. When he was caught, detectives were able to recover some of the stolen money, the release said.

The investigation continues, and Gilmore could face additional counts after an investigation of an occurrence at a financial institution in Morgan City, the news release said.

Officials ask for help to ID arson suspects

The Lafayette Fire Department is looking for the occupants of a truck seen leaving an arson fire last month, officials said in a news release.

Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said the vehicle was intentionally set afire in the 300 block of East Main Street on March 11. Viewing the footage of a nearby video camera, investigators identified a dark, older-model pickup with no tailgate leaving the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lafayette Fire Department at (337) 291-8716 or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.

Missing youths found in New Orleans area

Two Acadiana youths, who suffer from depression and had been missing since Sunday night, were found Thursday in the New Orleans area, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The parents of Ariel Blaze Robin, 12, and Henry Bieber Jr., 15, were traveling Thursday afternoon to New Orleans to bring them back home, Capt. Megan Vizena said in an email.

Robin was last seen at 9:30 p.m. Sunday running from her Leonville home in St. Landry Parish to a waiting white 2001 Mercury Sable.

Authorities said this week the car was driven by Bieber, who lives in Church Point.
