With help from the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations and Lafayette police narcotics officers, State Police prowled online networking websites for people searching for prostitutes, State Police spokesman Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said. “They were able to identify nine people who requested to meet adults and/or children for various sexual purposes,” Hammons said. “In all of the cases, the suspects offered money for sex from the undercover detectives.” On Friday, Fallon L. Childress, 28; Desrelle Lastrapes, 23; Jody Lee, 28; and Charlotte Berthelot, 37, all of Lafayette, and Shante Monique McClain, 23, of Oklahoma City, were arrested on counts of prostitution, Hammons said. Carl White Jr., 32, of Lafayette, was arrested on promoting prostitution, and Joseph J. Ventress, 26, of Lafayette, was arrested on pandering and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. On Saturday, Stewart Michael Brown, 29, of Lafayette, was arrested on counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor, indecent behavior with a juvenile and prostitution, and Liwel Zhao, 24, of Lafayette, was arrested on counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and prostitution. Some were booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and some were issued summonses, though Hammons said he was not sure which ones were booked and which ones were issued summonses. Hammons said there were some details of the operation he could not divulge because it might jeopardize future online undercover operations.
