Chataignier man pleads guilty to child porn

A Chataignier man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Wednesday to possession of child pornography he got from an online file-sharing network.

Ricky Johnson, 53, faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 and, once out of prison, a lifetime of supervision, according to a release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

FBI agents searched Johnson’s computer in 2010 and discovered he was downloading images and video of child pornography from the file-sharing network.

The investigation was part of Project Safe Childhood, an ongoing U.S. Department of Justice crackdown on those who sexually exploit children online.

The program is an attempt to identify and rescue abuse victims, U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley said.

Johnson was previously convicted of molestation of a juvenile.

Federal officials encourage anyone with information about suspected child abuse to report the information to DHS hotline, (866) DHS-2ICE, or its website, ice.gov/exec/forms/his-tips/tips.asp

Information also can be given by calling the FBI at (337) 233-2164 or logging onto tips@fbi.gov.
