Five hurt when vehicle overturned early Wednesday in St. Landry Parish

A 40-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning when the Jeep sports utility vehicle she was riding in overturned on La. 182 in St. Landry Parish and she was trapped underneath.

Four children, ages, 7, 10, 10 and 14, also sustained moderate to severe injuries when Yvonne Leblanc, 32, of Lebeau, lost control of her 2004 Jeep, ran off the road and overturned at about 1 a.m., State Police spokesman Sgt. Nick Manale said.

The 40-year-old woman was identified by State Police as Elizabeth Gaines. No other information about Gaines was released.

Leblanc was traveling south on La. 182, north of La. 10 when the accident happened, Manale said.

None of the six people in the jeep was restrained, Manale said.

Leblanc was not injured and was booked into St. Landry Parish Jail on five counts of negligent injuring, four counts of no child restraint and one count each of first-offense DWI, children endangerment, reckless operation, no seat belt and failure to obtain motor vehicle insurance.
