Woman robbed at gunpoint at Hammond bank

Hammond police are searching for a man accused of robbing a woman Thursday night at gunpoint at a bank on South Morrison Boulevard.

The woman told police she drove to the Regions Bank on South Morrison Boulevard to make a deposit around 11:15 p.m. Thursday when a man approached her vehicle from behind, according to Lt. Vincent Giannobile, a spokesman for the police department.

The man, who was wearing what appeared to be a white bag over his face, was holding a gun and demanded the woman’s cash, Giannobile said in a news release.

The woman gave up her cash and cellphone and the man then ran off, headed toward a Circle K store on South Morrison that is across the street from the Regions Bank.

The man is described as a black male in his early 20s, Giannobile said. He was seen in nearby surveillance footage wearing a black or blue jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa at (800) 554-5245 or the Hammond Police Department at (985) 277-5755.
