Two injured in North 39th Street shooting
Two men were shot Saturday afternoon on North 39th Street in Baton Rouge, one of whom suffered injuries that were considered life-threatening.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said the shooting occurred about 2 p.m. in the 1200 block of North 39th.
The two men, ages 26 and 29, were in a car on North 39th when they were shot and as they drove away crashed into a vehicle at the intersection of North 39th and Odell streets.
The 29-year-old, who was shot once, ran to a nearby home and asked the homeowner to call 911, McKneely said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, McKneely said.
The 26-year-old was shot multiple times and his injuries are considered life-threatening, McKneely said.
Police do not have a motive or any suspects yet.
McKneely said he did not know if the men were driving or sitting in a parked vehicle when the shooting occurred. The people in the other car involved in the accident sustained minor injuries, McKneely said.
Police investigate shooting in north BR
Baton Rouge police were searching late Saturday for the person who shot a man in the back about 6 p.m. near Rosewood Street and Harding Boulevard.
Police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said the shooting occurred as the victim was walking in the street and the injuries are not considered life-threatening. No further information was available late Saturday.
Man, 20, accused of indecent behavior
A 20-year-old man who sent a 16-year-old girl a picture of his genitals along with handwritten letters expressing his love for her was arrested Thursday.
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies booked Austin Patrick Russell, 1643 E. Walker Court, Apt. C, into Parish Prison on counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and improper telephone communications, prison records show.
Russell admitted to sending the picture, but said the girl told him she was 18, the affidavit of probable cause says.
The victim’s parents asked Russell to stop contacting her, but he continued and the parents gave deputies 14 handwritten letters that Russell left on their vehicle, the affidavit says.
Man accused of sexual battery of toddler
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies on Friday arrested a 20-year-old man accused of inappropriately touching a 3-year-old girl and infecting her with gonorrhea.
Deputies booked Rodney David Paul Granger, 6630 Siegen Lane, Apt. 233, Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on two counts of sexual battery, prison records show.
Granger suggested to police that the toddler might have contracted the sexually transmitted disease after he failed to wash his hands after masturbating and then assisted her in the bathroom, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Woman accused of aiding DWI suspect
A 37-year-old St. Amant woman was arrested Friday on allegations that she helped a man involved in a DWI-related accident on July 5 leave a local hospital after a trooper told her he was under arrest.
Troopers booked Stacy Diane Crause, 12263 Laurel Ridge Road, into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of assisting escape and resisting arrest and interference with officers, prison records show.
Henry Jara, 35, address unavailable, was involved in an accident on Interstate 10 on July 5, west of La. 73 in Ascension Parish, got out of the car and began walking down the interstate, the affidavit warrant says.
A state trooper investigating the accident later found Jara at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and arrested him on first-offense DWI and other violations stemming from the accident, the warrant says
Five arrested on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least five people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
- Kathryn Navarre, 19, 9315 Prairie Trails, Spring, Texas, first-offense DWI and disobeying a red light.
- Adrienne Peyton, 29, 10217 N. Harvey Drive, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, failure to yield in private driveway and reckless operation.
- John Stewart, 58, 7938 Pine Bluff Road, Denham Springs, first-offense DWI, careless driving, reckless operation and failure to maintain control.
- Robert Town, 24, 7250 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI and reckless operation.
- Judge Wilson, 56, 558 Fuller St., Shreveport, first-offense DWI.
