Police search for 3 cyclists in North Foster shooting death

Updated at 10:45 a.m. — A 54-year-old man died Wednesday night after being shot multiple times, then hit by a pickup near North Foster Drive and Sherwood Street, Baton Rouge police said.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, was walking on the sidewalk of North Foster Drive around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday when he was shot several times, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Witnesses described seeing three young men flee the scene of the shooting on bicycles in the 4300 block of North Foster Drive, McKneely said.

Police have not identified any possible suspects in the shooting.

Police say they believe the victim was probably dead before the truck struck him, but they will not know until the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office performs an autopsy, McKneely said.

The Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy on the victim Friday morning, said Dr. Beau Clark, the parish coroner.

Police have asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
