Man accused of torching vacant mobile home near Duson

A 64-year-old man was booked on a simple arson count Wednesday for allegedly setting fire to a vacant mobile home in his neighborhood because he thought it unsightly, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.

William Riley is accused of setting the fire Monday evening in the 800 block of Cocodril Road near Duson.

The owner of the home had moved out several months ago, according to a news release from the Fire Department.

Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said Riley allegedly did not like the looks of the tall grass on the property and the “somewhat abandoned” appearance of the mobile home.

The fire, which investigators believe was set on the front porch, caused heavy damaged to the building, according to the news release.
