Police were called around 6 p.m. Wednesday about the shooting, Lt. Vincent Giannobile said Thursday in a news release. Officers went to a hospital where the boy was being treated and found the boy’s mother, Giannobile said. The boy’s mother said she and her son were passengers in a vehicle going south on South Morrison when she and the driver noticed a blue Dodge pickup following behind them closely. She said they continued south on South Morrison and got to Interstate 55 south when the truck stopped pursuing them. The woman said they exited I-55 at Ponchatoula and stopped at a store off the interstate when she realized her 7-year-old son sitting in the back seat had been shot in the hip, Giannobile said. The boy was rushed to a hospital where he remained in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon, Giannobile said. Police are looking for a two-door, dark blue Dodge pickup occupied by two unidentified men.
