Nonprofit warns about phone soliciting scam Nonprofit warns about phone soliciting scam Advocate staff report Oct. 10, 2013 Comments Cancer Services of Baton Rouge issued a warning Wednesday, saying people not affiliated with the organization have been placing phone calls and soliciting donations in the name of the nonprofit. “Please know that it is not the policy of Cancer Services to solicit donations by telephone,” the organization said in an email. Officials with the nonprofit are asking anyone who gets a call from someone claiming to be with Cancer Services of Baton Rouge to gather what facts they can about the caller without giving away personal information and call Cancer Services at (225) 927-2273. Cancer Services also is asking people who already received such calls to contact the organization with information they may have. The organization has alerted law enforcement to the scam.
