Man accused of armed robbery during gun sale
Police arrested a 17-year-old man Wednesday accused of robbing a man at gunpoint while attempting to sell the victim a gun in late August.
Police booked Demondre Gross, 4605 Evangeline St., Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on counts of armed robbery, according to an arrest warrant and prison records.
Shortly before midnight Aug. 30, Gross and two other men went to a residence in the 800 block of South 15th Street intending to sell a firearm to an individual, the warrant says.
When the would-be customer refused, citing a lack of money, Gross is accused of pulling out a gun and demanding the man’s wallet, the warrant says.
Gross and the two men with him fled after the victim turned over his wallet, the warrant says.
Police seek 2 in thefts of air-conditioning units
Police are trying to identify two people seen on a security camera stealing air-conditioning units from 2222 Eastgate Drive at about 8:20 p.m. Sept. 15.
Police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola said the thieves were seen leaving in a two-tone Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck.
Coppola said police have seen a recent spike in air-conditioning unit thefts, which most of the times are stolen to re-sell the copper in them.
However, the units stolen were new, so investigators do not know the intent of the thieves, Coppola said.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police at 389-3824 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
Police accuse man, 21, of attempted robbery
A 21-year-old man is accused of attempting to rob a man at gunpoint from inside of a vehicle shortly before midnight Monday outside of an apartment complex off Airline Highway in north Baton Rouge.
Police booked DaJourn Holmes, 5876 Quida Mae Drive, Apt. 203, into Parish Prison on counts of attempted armed robbery, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Holmes called attention to himself after contacting police shortly after the attempted robbery to report damage done to his vehicle — the same vehicle allegedly used in the attempted robbery, the affidavit says.
The victim of the attempted robbery told police that two men rode up next to him at an apartment complex in the 5800 block of Quida Mae Drive and demanded money, prompting him to flee on foot, the affidavit says.
In apparent retaliation, a group of “Hispanic males” nearby vandalized the vehicle, the warrant says.
Holmes first told detectives he was standing next to his vehicle talking with “Amigo” when someone busted his window, the affidavit says, but began to contradict himself as the interview progressed.
Holmes denied knowing of any attempted robbery, and also denied having anyone in his vehicle, the affidavit says.
