LAFAYETTE — State Police have added to the accusations against a New Iberia man already in jail for alleged sex crimes involving children.
State Police detectives suspect Austin Gulledge, 32, raped a child who had not yet reached the age of 1, according to a Troop I news release.
Gulledge was arrested Sept. 17 after investigators started looking into tips about the New Iberia resident. He was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on counts of possessing, making and distributing child pornography, Troop I said .
On Tuesday, troopers added one count of aggravated rape, according to the news release. If Gulledge is formally charged with aggravated rape and is convicted of the crime, he faces life in prison.
Leading up to Gulledge’s arrest last week, State Police, the FBI and detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office found more than 20 videos of child sexual acts and more than 200 photo images of child pornography.
The arrest was part of the ongoing Operation Child Watch, a program enacted to save children from sexual predators.
