Man booked in stabbing of girlfriend in Lafayette

Lafayette police arrested a man on one count of attempted second-degree murder in the Tuesday stabbing of his girlfriend, who is listed in serious condition at a local hospital.

Warren Chavis, 49, got into a fight with the woman at an apartment in the 200 block of Woodrow Street in Lafayette, according to a news release that did not identify the victim but stated her age as 29 years old. Police were called at 8:15 p.m.

During the fight, “The suspect … produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times,” the release stated.

The case remains under investigation.
