LAFAYETTE — Iberia Parish authorities arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday in the death of a woman found in a New Iberia home on Thursday.
Nicholas Williams, of 1721 Brianna Drive, New Iberia, was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on one count of first-degree murder, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Ryan Turner said.
“Detectives, acting on information they received, were able to link Williams to the homicide,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a release Friday.
Turner said Iberia authorities were not ready to release the name of the victim or how the 29-year-old woman died.
“We’re pretty confident it was a murder,” Turner said. “But as to an exact cause and manner of death, we’re still waiting on a coroner’s report.”
The victim’s body was turned over to the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office on Thursday. Turner said he would not speculate on when autopsy results would be available.
Turner said a neighbor contacted sheriff’s deputies and asked if they could check on the victim.
“The call came in as a possible welfare concern,” he said.
The responding deputies found the woman’s body at the home in the 400 block of Deare Street, where she was pronounced dead.
Williams’ bail had not been set Friday afternoon, Turner said.
