Store owner arrested on drug count in sting
Baton Rouge police recently seized nearly 7,000 grams of synthetic marijuana from a local convenience store and arrested its owner after an undercover investigation.
Alireza Hajiakbarifini, 59, was booked last week on one count of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I drug. Hajiakbarifini owns the Tiger Express, 300 Lee Drive.
Police sent a confidential informant into the store on at least four occasions to buy a form of synthetic marijuana known as Karma, according to court filings.
In addition to the drugs, authorities on Aug. 29 also seized about $35,000, a digital scale and packaging bags while conducting a search warrant.
BR man, 18, arrested in June 30 shootings
Baton Rouge police arrested an 18-year-old man Wednesday accused of shooting a man who had fallen to his knees to beg for his life on June 30.
Police booked Nicholes Warcone Whitten, 3127 Winnebago St., Baton Rouge, into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on two counts of attempted second-degree murder, according to an arrest warrant.
The victim was walking near the 3700 block of Plank Road when he stopped to speak with some women he recognized, who soon informed him that a gunman was with them, the warrant said.
When the victim approached the man — who police identified as Whitten — Whitten pulled out a gun, which prompted the victim to get on his knees and beg for his life, the warrant said.
At some point, the victim stood up and tried to run away, and was shot in the back, the warrant said.
Whitten also is accused of attempting to shoot at least one other person during the incident, the warrant said.
