LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette woman was killed in what appears to have been a one-vehicle crash this weekend in the 6500 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway, the Broussard police chief said.
Branda Briggs, 60, was pronounced dead where Broussard police found her, about 75 feet from where her 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe came to rest in a field 350 feet away from Ambassador Caffery, Chief Brannon Decou said.
Decou said Briggs, who apparently was not wearing a seat belt, had been ejected from the vehicle in the accident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Tahoe “appeared to have been overturned several times,” Decou said in a news release.
He said investigators believe she was northbound and speeding when she left the roadway for unknown reasons.
Toxicology results are pending.
“The crash appears to be a single-vehicle crash. …,” Decou said, and asked that anyone who has more information to call Broussard police at (337) 837-6259.
