Motorcyclist dies after crash Thursday Motorcyclist dies after crash Thursday Advocate staff report Aug. 30, 2013 Comments A motorcyclist died Thursday from injuries he suffered in a collision with another vehicle that failed to yield while turning into the motorcyclist’s lane on Petroleum Drive. James Dunn, 61, 42296 Denver Hurst Road, Gonzales, was taken to a hospital where he later died, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. The driver of the vehicle that Dunn struck, Jerrick Treyon Sims, 24, of Baton Rouge, was arrested and booked into Parish Prison on counts of negligent homicide and failure to yield, Hicks said. The crash happened about 6 a.m. in the 18100 block of Petroleum Drive off Highland Road near Interstate 10. Dunn was traveling east on the road when Sims pulled out into Dunn’s lane of travel, causing Dunn to crash into the back of Sims’ vehicle, Hicks said, throwing Dunn from the motorcycle. Deputies do not suspect impairment on the part of either vehicle operator, Hicks said.
