Boy, 16, arrested in Wednesday shooting

Baton Rouge police arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old man Wednesday afternoon outside an apartment complex near Sparta Avenue off La. 19.

Police did not release the name of the suspected shooter, but they did book him into the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center on counts of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Kino Harris, 18, 2156 Davenport Ave., died Wednesday after being taken to a hospital suffering from two gunshot wounds — one in his side and one in his buttocks, police said.

The shooting stemmed from a argument earlier in the day in which the victim and the suspect exchanged words, although they weren’t fighting each other, McKneely said.

There are no other suspects in the case, he said.
