Bennie McInnis, 37, of Denham Springs, died Friday after a 2009 Dodge Caravan hit him while he was walking in the eastbound traffic lane of La. 1024, also called Cane Market Road, near Watson, State Police Troop A reported in a news release. The driver of the minivan, 41-year-old Phoebe Perault, also of Denham Springs, was unable to avoid McInnis while traveling east on the same highway, troopers said. Investigators did not cite Perault in the crash, and impairment was not suspected on her part. A toxicology report has been requested on McInnis, and investigators could not say whether impairment played a factor in his death, the release says.
