AMANT — Deputies arrested and booked two men into the Ascension Parish Jail after the pair admitting to stealing a gun and other items from vehicles in St. Amant. Sheriff’s Maj. Ward Webb reported in a news release Thursday that deputies responded to a call early Wednesday concerning two men in the Leo Lambert Road area “walking in the roadway acting suspicious.” When deputies arrived at the scene, they reported seeing one of the men throwing a dark object into a ditch, which was later recovered and identified as a silver-and-black handgun, Webb said Under questioning, Jeremy Carter and Tomas Jones admitted they had traveled along La. 943 burglarizing vehicles and had stolen several items, including a silver-and-black Smith & Wesson handgun. The items recovered from the men were returned to the homeowners. Jones, 19, 39139 Country Drive, Prairieville, was booked with illegally carrying a weapon, possession of stolen property, and burglary and theft of a vehicle. His bail was set at $20,292. Carter, 19, 11113 Irene E. Deslatte Road, St. Amant, was booked on counts of possession of stolen property and burglary and theft of a vehicle. His bail was set at $15,292.
