Teen shot, killed blocks away from Wednesday homicide Teen shot, killed blocks away from Wednesday homicide Advocate staff report June 14, 2013 Comments Less than 12 hours after a man was shot and killed Wednesday on North Sherwood Forest Boulevard, a teenager was fatally shot a few blocks away. Baton Rouge police said Thursday the shootings do not appear to be connected. Police responded to a report of a shooting at 10 p.m. Wednesday at 2011 Vickers Drive and found a teenager in the street suffering from gunshots, said police Cpl. L’Jean McKneely. The victim, 16-year-old Cameron Phillips, 2224 Shady Oaks Drive, was walking home when he was shot near the intersection of Tams Drive and Vickers Drive. After running for about 30 yards on Vickers Drive, Phillips collapsed and was later found dead, McKneely said. Phillips was shot in the lower back, McKneely said. The Vickers Drive shooting location is about six blocks east of the spot on North Sherwood Forest Boulevard where 25-year-old Brandon Carter was shot and killed earlier in the day Wednesday. Carter’s address was listed as 11445 Bard Ave. Bard Avenue is four blocks west of Vickers Drive. Phillips lived on Shady Oaks Drive, one block from Vickers Drive, four blocks away from Carter’s home and five blocks away from where Carter was shot and killed. Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly said Cameron Phillips was riding in a vehicle when he was shot. Phillips was walking when he was shot.
