New Iberia man accused of battery in traffic crash New Iberia man accused of battery in traffic crash Acadiana bureau May 29, 2013 Comments NEW IBERIA — A New Iberia man is accused of driving his car into oncoming traffic on La. 182 Friday morning in an attempt to kill himself, injuring a man and child in another vehicle, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. Dwayne P. Shaw was being treated for injuries Friday afternoon and was expected to be booked upon his release from the hospital on counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce, two counts of aggravated battery, driving left of center, no seat belt, driving under suspension and failure to register his vehicle, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Ryan Turner said. Shaw, 48, 800 block of Bank St., allegedly struck a vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man with a 6-month-old infant passenger, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Turner said the man and child had been treated and released as of Friday afternoon, but he was unsure of the extent of their injuries.
