May 16, 2013 13:00 Lafayette police release identity of drowning victim Lafayette police release identity of drowning victim Acadiana bureau May 16, 2013 Comments LAFAYETTE — A teen who drowned in Moore Park this week was identified Wednesday as 17-year-old Christlyn Willis, of Lafayette. A witness who had been swimming with Willis told police the pair swam out to the middle of a Moore Park pond on Tuesday about 4 p.m. when they had trouble staying afloat, according to a news release by city police. “One of the males was able to get over to the bank of the pond,” the release stated. “The second individual went beneath the water and never resurfaced.” Emergency responders went into the water to try to save Willis, but couldn’t locate him, police said. A Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office diver found Willis’ body about 6 p.m., police said. The drowning remains under investigation.
