Inmate dies after collapse in St. Mary Parish jail Inmate dies after collapse in St. Mary Parish jail Acadiana bureau May 07, 2013 Comments LAFAYETTE — An inmate who collapsed over the weekend at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Baldwin died Tuesday in a Franklin hospital of unknown causes, authorities said. Anthony Wilson, 41, of 107 Branch St., Baldwin, had been arrested Friday on a traffic warrant, according to a news release issued by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Wilson collapsed at the jail on Saturday and was transferred to the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma, public information officer Traci Landry said in the release. “The medical staff at Chabert examined Mr. Wilson, ran tests and rendered treatment,” Landry said. Wilson was returned to the jail in Baldwin, where he was monitored by medical staff, Landry said. She said deputies on Tuesday morning found Wilson “incoherent and in need of medical assistance.” An ambulance took Wilson to Franklin Foundation Hospital, the release said, and at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, hospital officials told the Sheriff’s Office that Wilson had died. “The Sheriff’s Office has no information as to the cause of death,” the release stated.
