A 2003 Lexus reported stolen April 25 from the parking lot of the Ascension Catholic Church was located a short time later in St. James Parish, Chief Deputy Tony Bacala, of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release. A witness told authorities that a black Pontiac G6 with a Texas license plate was seen leaving the area of La. 3125 where the stolen Lexus turned up, Bacala said. St. James sheriff’s deputies later located the Pontiac at an Auto Zone in Lutcher, Bacala said. Deputies found Texas residents Erick Byington and Ashley Nicole Lee in the Pontiac along with clothing and other items reported stolen from the Lexus, Bacala said. In addition, Bacala said, other property reported stolen from six other vehicles in the church parking lot also was found in their possession. Byington, 32, and Lee, 23, both of 8308 Shasta Drive, McKinney, Texas, were arrested in St. James Parish and will face counts of theft of a motor vehicle and six counts of simple burglary of a vehicle in Ascension Parish, Bacala said.
