Fatal shooting causes Ponchatoula High School lockdown

PONCHATOULA – Authorities put Ponchatoula High School on lockdown Tuesday after a woman was shot and killed nearby, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies are seeking Ryan Pourciau, 18, as “a person of interest” in that case, said Chief Deputy Dennis Pevey of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

April Vanderlinden, 39, was shot Tuesday morning at 39322 Brookfield Drive in Ponchatoula and subsequently was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office

Because of the close proximity of the shooting scene to the school, officials placed school on lockdown, Pevey said.
