Agents with the State Police Gaming Division arrested 43-year-old Russell J. Cormier, who officials said told casino employees about an explosive device he claimed to have left inside the casino. After allegedly telling employees he’d planted a bomb, authorities initiated a multiple-agency response that included State Police, Opelousas police, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office’s bomb-sniffing K-9 and the Opelousas Fire Department, State Police said in a news release. No bomb was found, according to the release. Cormier was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail, and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, State Police said.
