Gonzales police arrest 2 in lawnmower thefts Gonzales police arrest 2 in lawnmower thefts River Parishes bureau April 09, 2013 Comments GONZALES — Police arrested two New Orleans men early Monday in an alleged plot to steal lawn mowers from The Home Depot. Gonzales police officers went to The Home Depot on Cajun Boulevard in response to a burglar alarm, and they spotted a U-Haul truck loaded with $6,000 worth of riding lawn mowers, police Sgt. Steven Nethken said in a news release. The suspects tried to run away, Nethken said. Jovan Murphy, 33, of 4319 Chartres St., New Orleans, was apprehended immediately, while his partner, David Lewis, 32, of 7040 Boston Drive, New Orleans, was captured several hours later in a wooded area near La. 44 and Interstate 10, Nethken said. Further investigation revealed that the U-Haul truck was believed to have been stolen from New Orleans, Nethken said. All of the merchandise was recovered and returned, he said. Murphy and Lewis were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on one count each of simple burglary of a business and resisting arrest, Nethken said.
