Bryan Mitchell, 25, of Houma, was driving a 1994 GMC SUV west on La. 182 near the intersection with Sun Street in Bayou Vista at around 11:45 p.m., State Police said in a news release. Troopers said Mitchell veered right, hit a ditch, overturned, then struck a utility pole, State Police said. Mitchell and passenger Tyronne Gray, 40, of Thibodaux, were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office, the release stated. Mitchell was wearing a seat belt and Gray was not, the release stated. Another passenger, Anna Collette, 33, of Franklin, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital, police said. State Police investigators Wednesday were trying to determine whether Collette was wearing a seat belt and whether driver impairment was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation, the release said.
