Two vacant houses damaged in blaze
Firefighters investigated the cause of a house fire Saturday afternoon that damaged two vacant residences on Education Street, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman said.
Firefighters who arrived at 641 Education St. at 12:08 p.m. finally brought the blaze under control at 1:07 p.m., department spokesman Robert Combs said in a news release.
Firefighters believe the blaze began in the kitchen area of the residence and entered the attic, Combs said. The home suffered significant fire and water damage throughout, he said.
The fire also spread to the house next door and started burning in its attic, Combs said. Fire, heat and smoke damage was sustained throughout the second home.
Both houses are considered total losses, Combs said.
No one was injured during the incident, Combs said.
Authorities book 3 on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
- Ashton Baker, 21, 720 N. River Road, Denham Springs, first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.
- Alexanne Eberts, 22, 1302 Emerson Ave., Monroe, first-offense DWI and disobeying a traffic control device.
- John Eumont, 21, 439 Fairway Drive, New Orleans, first-offense DWI, speeding, reckless operation of a vehicle and motor vehicle inspection required.
