Slidell man accused
of theft in EBR
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies Monday arrested a 19-year-old man accused of stealing two rifles and a wallet from a sheriff’s patrol unit parked off College Drive on Friday, according to an arrest warrant.
Tommie Smith, 301 Spartan Drive, Slidell, was booked into Parish Prison on two counts of theft of a firearm and one count each of simple burglary of a law enforcement vehicle and theft.
Deputies responded to 2100 College Drive and discovered someone broke into a fully marked Sheriff’s Office unit, a 2008 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, sitting in the parking lot, the warrant says.
The truck is assigned to the Sheriff’s Office’s Special Weapons and Tactics division, the warrant says.
Deputies discovered that two tactical rifles, worth $1,500 and $1,550 each, were gone, the warrant says.
Deputies also noticed that a wallet belonging to a deputy was missing, the warrant says. The wallet contained identification, $30 and credit cards, the warrant says.
Deputies processed the vehicle for fingerprints, which matched Smith’s fingerprints, the warrant says.
