A white man in his mid-30s was seen leaving the area before police arrived at 11 p.m. Sunday to investigate the accident, which killed 54-year-old Wilton John Hamilton, of Duson, according to a Lafayette police news release. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene in the 3200 block of Cameron Street, where he crashed his Chevrolet pickup into a utility pole, police said.
