Eunice man booked in Feb. 24 beating death of toddler Eunice man booked in Feb. 24 beating death of toddler Officials: Toddler dies after beating Acadiana bureau March 13, 2013 Comments OPELOUSAS — A Eunice man is being held without bond in the St. Landry Parish jail on one count of second-degree murder in the February beating death of a 19-month-old girl, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said. Robert Henry Miller III, 34, also was booked on one count of domestic abuse for allegedly beating the child’s mother, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Capt. Megan Vizena said Tuesday. Miller’s attorney, Roy Richard, did not return a message left at his Lafayette office Tuesday. Deputies responded to a 911 call on Feb. 24 made by the girl’s mother, who while on the phone with 911 was attempting CPR on the girl, Vizena said. “The deputies saw numerous bruises all over the head and body,” Vizena said. The girl was pronounced dead later on Feb. 24 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, she said. Vizena said the autopsy showed “the child had multiple head injuries that caused the brain to swell.” Miller had been the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother for about eight weeks, and the three lived at 567 U.S. 190, lot 17, in Eunice, Vizena said. Vizena said Tuesday the Sheriff’s Office was not ready to identify the child or her mother.
