East Feliciana escapee, companion arrested

East Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies and State Police arrested a prison work-release escapee Tuesday night at a Baton Rouge motel, a spokesman for Sheriff Talmadge Bunch said.

Frankie New, 40, formerly of 10426 Jack Torres Road, Maringouin, left his job site at Elam’s Auto Service and Body Shop in Jackson on Monday.

Sheriff’s Detective Don McKey said deputies and State Police arrested the fugitive about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.

He was booked in the East Feliciana Parish Jail with simple escape. New, serving a state prison term for simple burglary, had been scheduled for release in March 2014.

Deputies also arrested Sheryl Millsaps, 29, 7016 Couteau Road, New Iberia, and booked her in Clinton with principal to simple escape, McKey said.

Millsaps is accused of leaving Jackson with New when he disappeared from his assigned job, McKey said, adding that more arrests are possible.

any port in a storm, woody. he should be returned to prison with strict confinment AND the additional maximum charge added. she should be charged with every conceivable charge possible and when convicted, sent to prison for the longest time possible. an example for others should be made of these two as our current "we know it wasn't your fault" system doesn't work.
