Baker teacher accused of smoking pot with students, improper touching

Police arrested a Baker High School teacher who smoked marijuana with students at her residence and touched two male students in a sexual manner, an affidavit warrant says.

Police booked Katherine Manuselis, 34, 3541 Buffwood Drive, Baker, into Parish Prison on Friday on 30 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, and one count each of possession and distribution of marijuana, illegal use of a controlled substance in the presence of persons under the age of 17 years old and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, the warrant says.

In addition to touching the boys, Manuselis, a teacher at Baker since the 2011-2012 school year, allegedly sent
one of them sexual text messages and offered the other student whatever grade he wanted in her class, the warrant says.

One of the boys said he did not consent to the touching and “despised” her for it, the warrant says.

She also allegedly purchased marijuana through a 17-year-old boy and smoked it with him and an 18-year-old girl, both of whom were students, the warrant says.

I actually know this person. She worked at my school. We fired her from there for basically the same thing. We turned it over to the authorities but obviously nothing ever came of the case. Just for those curious. She is a decent looking lady with some curves, hippie type/ doesn't bathe much type.

Tally i agree with you about we teachers being stressed out. But in the end the only person to blame is this teacher. Lots of us are stressed but most of us know better than to fire up one with our students

He has been accused here of responsibility for Baton Rouge's high VD rate, so I guess it makes sense. 2) @ Bouncer "Skank" is highly insensitive toward unattractive women of unquestioned virtue as well as toward the accused, and many people, especially women, are not at their best in mug shots. 3) Where are the "innocent until proven guilty" advocates? 4) @ Theophilus - very perceptive - there used to a canard like unto a geometrical axiom, "the angle of the dangle....." but I forget the rest.

Teaching is a high-stress job. Stressed out people make bad decisions. The way Louisiana treats teachers I am surprised more of this stupidity is not going on. Blame, judgement and lack of support is causing good teachers to leave. Expect more tragedies as the stress piles on with Jindal's evaluation plan. It's like a sad circus.

My gosh where are they getting all these (mostly female) teachers getting ionvolved sexually with their students. One problem is that there is a double standard when it comes to this. The male teachers will do time, few of these females do time for sexual contact. They just lose their job. If they started sending them to prison for 4 or 5 years, they may think twice before getting involved like they are. It's the same thing I have preached before on here, make the punishment severe and swift and that will at least stop some from this type of behavior.

Seriously? OMG...trying to be "cool" and crossing the line into stupid (marijuana), and touching/texting students is a definite breech of ethics...however, a simple drug test and confiscated phone can determine the reliability of the accusations. I've known teachers in my 19 year career that have been accused of A LOT, but when push comes to shove....in many instances, it boils down to unwise actions giving spiteful students ammunition to get a teacher in trouble. This is why MOST teachers that belong to a union do...liability insurance and legal assistance in situations like these...and if the teacher doesn't have tenure, unfounded accusations can still ruin a career! I will assume they wouldn't have arrested her without quality evidence in this situation...

Is this woman a real teacher or Alternate Certified or Teach for America? The difference is that real teachers usually know better. At the same time, marijuana needs to be legalized. The taxes would be a great way to bring in more revenue which Louisana needs instead of less spending. But never touch a student in a sexual way. It will get a teacher in trouble even if he did like it.
