State Police investigate fatal crash in Livingston Parish State Police investigate fatal crash in Livingston Parish Advocate staff report Feb. 07, 2013 Comments WATSON — A 60-year-old Greenwell Springs man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday on La. 1019 east of La. 16 in Livingston Parish, a State Police spokesman said. Walter C. Phillips Jr. was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser west on La. 1019 at about 2 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and ran off the road, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release. Phillips overcorrected, re-entered the roadway and crossed into the eastbound lanes, Sandifer said. Phillips’ PT Cruiser was struck on its passenger side by a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Jeffery L. Thompson, 55, of Denham Springs, Sandifer said. Phillips was not wearing a seat belt and died in the crash, Sandifer said. Thompson was properly restrained and was uninjured, Sandifer said. Troopers are not sure if impairment was a factor in the crash but have submitted a toxicology sample from Phillips to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said.
